Firefly is also about adult emotional relationships, for example Kaylee's crush on Simon, the happy marriage of Mal's second officer Zoe and the pilot Wash, the disastrous erotic stalemate between Mal and the courtesan Inara. Individual episodes deal with capers going vaguely wrong, or threats narrowly circumvented; character and plot arcs were starting to emerge when the show was cancelled. Fortunately, the spin-off movie Serenity ties up some of the ends; and in the meantime, what there is of Firefly is a show to marvel at, both for its tight writing and ensemble acting, and the idiocy of the executives who cancelled it.

On the DVD: Firefly on DVD is presented in anamorphic 1.78:1 with Dolby Surround Sound. It includes commentaries on six episodes by various writers, directors, designers and cast members as well as featurettes on the conception of the show and the design of the spaceship Serenity, four deleted scenes, a gag reel, and Joss Whedon singing the show's theme tune, more or less. One of the things that emerges from all of this is how committed to the project everyone involved with it was, and is--unusually, you end up caring as much for the cast and crew as for the characters.

It starts a bit slowly but this show is worth sticking with. Another great show that Fox canceled but at least they finished it off with a film.

Firefly....Shiny Blu Ray

Firefly the TV show was a sci-fi cowboy style space romp featuring the crew and passengers of a firefly class space cargo vessel called Serenity. The TV series later spawned the movie serenity Serenity [Blu-ray] [2005]and 2 graphic novels Serenity - Those Left Behind & Serenity Volume 2: Better Days: Better Days v. 2that in the timeline of the world fitted in between the TV show and the film.
I will assume that anyone in the UK reading this is thinking about replacing there DVD version of firefly and not thinking about purchasing a US Import version as an impulse purchase.

1st off the blu ray version is region A and B coded so will play in the UK. The quailty of the blu ray is pretty darn fine and alround provides a very "shiny" viewing experience. Some scenes are a little grainy but not massively noticeable and at times you realise that the use of smoke and atmospheric lighting in the bar and some interior ship shots are probably the main cause of this and not a bad transfer.

I won't claim this to be the greatest blu ray conversion in the world but it is most definatley a massive upgrade from the the DVD release and to any fan of the show is as good as it gets offering many hours of supberb blu ray entertainment.

Serien som kom før filmen Serenity

Dette er serien som kom før filmen og ble avsluttet så alt for tidlig. Har ikke rukket å se så mye.
Dette er helt klart teknisk enklere enn filmen. Bilde ok og lyd kun DD 2.0. Så her får man kjøre litt Dolby Prologic for å få litt kunstig surond. Men alikavel gleder jeg meg til å se gjennom det hele. Stemningen er som i filmen. Så det er veldig bra.

Bilde: Hadde håpet dette skulle komme ut i HD, men orket ikke vente lenger. Prisen var jo svært rimelig. Er vel helt greit bilde hjamført DVD mediet. Bra sortnivå og greit med detaljer. Noe støy er det jo men greit.
Lyd: DD 2.0 lukter det jo ikke noe fugl av. Man kunne jo spandert på et 5.1 lydspor i alle fall. Så her er det et meget front plasert lydbilde. Virker greit nok utifra sine begrensinger.

Well worth watching. One of my favourite Sci-fi shows. Can't believe they didn't make more than one series. Be sure to check out the follow up feature length movie called Serenity.
