Usually dispatched within 24 hours Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2 Disc Special Edition) [DVD]: The question facing any viewer of the Japanese CG feature Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is: do you have to know the games on which it’s based in order to understand the film? And the answer is: it certainly helps. But even complete novices (i.e., most parents) in the Final Fantasy world will find some entertainment in its wealth of fantasy-based action, and the animation never fails to astonish. Picking up two years after an epic battle between the forces of good (represented by brooding soldier Cloud) and evil (Cloud’s former general, Sephiroth), FFVII opens in the devastated city of Midgard, whose youthful occupants suffer from a ghastly disease known as Geostigma. A trio of brothers arrives with what appears to be a cure for the plague, but their gesture conceals a more sinister purpose: to revive Sephiroth and bring about the end of the world. Cloud and his companions must once again rise to the occasion to stop the siblings and the revived Sephiroth from unleashing total destruction. Complex and self-referential to the point of occasional incomprehension, Final Fantasy VII will definitely be most appreciated by fans of the game series, but if others can look past the numbing dialogue and frenetic action (which is a bit too intense for very young children), the film offers a carefree and action-packed viewing experience. The two-disc set contains the original Japanese language version of the film as well as an English-dubbed edition (Rachel Leigh Cook and Christy Carlson Romano, among others, provide the vocal talent) and a version edited for the Venice Film Festival. A 30-minute featurette that recaps the Final Fantasy story up to VII, as well as a making-of documentary, deleted scenes, and promotions for future Final Fantasy VII games and products round out the extras. --Paul Gaita Customer Reviews (Average 4.5 from 206) : What more is there to say? Rating:5 Well great product delivery was great aswell love the movie CGI is spectacular oh but i want to add the "bonus" scenes i only notice a big difference between the endings of this version and the theatrical other than that not that much of a big difference if your a big FF7 fan or just like CGI this is recommended. the extended version is not better at all Rating:4 this Blu-ray was a good replacement for the DVD i owned before, since the Blu-ray quality compares to DVD approximately as DVD compares to VHS, but the extended version of the movie was rather a disappointment Awsomeness Rating:5 This is an awsome movie filled with action, emotion and great theme music from the final fantasy 7 game. I recommend it for people who love the final fantasy series and especially for thos who love game number 7 in the series. Film for ff7 fans Rating:5 For a ff7 fan, then this film is 5 star and perfect follow on from the game. The story is interesting, the action scenes fantastic and overall amazing CGI. Its not really for people who aren't fans of ff7, but anyone interested in Japanese manga will probably enjoy as well. At the end of the day it is a film made by the creators of the game and is aimed at fans of that game. It's watchable if unfamiliar with the series, but only just!! Rating:3 I took the advice of the people who have reviewed this movie saying "you don't have to be familiar to the series to enjoy this movie" and decided to purchase it to watch over Xmas. To a certain degree they're correct, but only just!! As I watched the Blu-Ray I was able to pick up what was going on and could just about understand the storyline - however different characters turn up throughout the movie and I just did not know who they were. In regards to the storyline - previous knowledge of the series is not 100% necessary, however in regards to the characters - it's not essential, but be prepared to wonder who the hell these people are?!?!!? In regards to the Blu-Ray quality - At times the picture & sound quality astounded me, I was very impressed. The bottom line - Is it worth buying if you're not a fan? Possibly, but only to watch once. My copy ended up on eBay!! |
