Whilst the Essential Collection contains arguably his more notable films, I was intrigued to find out more about the dark, mysterious actor. Though I have seen The Great Escape and The Magnificent Seven numerous times on the TV over the years (and I'd suggest anyone who hasn't seen them to add them to their film repertoire), The Thomas Crown Affair and The Sand Pebbles eluded me. I was expecting something different from The Thomas Crown affair, but that isn't to say the film wasn't great. The interplay and subtle glances between McQueen and Dunaway are in my opinion one of the best pairings of the time. Aside from buying into McQueen, you're buying a piece of film history and I strongly recommend this boxset. Gone but not forgotten Rating:5 Excellent collection of Steve's well known films - one of my favourites, The Sand Pebbles and I never get tired of watching any of these golden oldies from one of the most exciting actors ever to grace our screens, this set of CD's are a must for any fan - Superb watching. Steve McQueen Collection Rating:4 A good cross section of his work, as a long time admirer, this is a worthwhile addition to any collection. The Great Steve McQueen Rating:5 Bought for a former significant other for sentimental reasons, this is in essence a distillation of some of McQueen's best work. He appeared not to have many facial expressions, and some say he was a touch wooden, but why is he still so missed, and so much loved ? It must be the enigmatic inscrutability, and the subtle quality of his acting that we still crave so much. My only regret is that "Papillon" was not included. What better way to spend a cold snowy winter than curled up under a blanket wallowing in these films?!
