Poor...

...very poor. This series flaws are pointed out in the other negative reviews, but worth noting are the completely undeveloped characters and the rubbish ending. Avoid.

An entertaining anime with at time hilariously intentionally inappropriate humor.

Despite what some of the other reviewers have stated about being qualified to review this product, please do not be put off by this. Instead I recommend taking a moment to type in "Tokko" on YouTube so you can form your own impression as to whether or not this excellent, funny and action packed anime, in my opinion, might be up your alley. Personally I found the story intriguing and it wasn't difficult for me to keep track of though others may have different experiences with it. The voice acting is of high quality and fits the characters, as well as the on-screen images - well done to the audio casting crew (particular mention goes to the police chief Kaoru Kunikida - aka. "Chiefy" - who is a riot and a half, along with Tokko team member Suzuka Kureha).

I do agree with one of the previous reviewers that the ending is left very much open for a sequel and I for one dearly hope that some day in the not too distant future a full sequel of the same quality sees the light of day. If it does I will be standing in line waiting to buy it the moment I hear of it.

You mean Tokko in the second division?

To begin with this is my favorite DVD series with regards to new anime. Tokko is a series full of confusion, swords, amazingly drawn characters and above all the most annoying ending in a series ever. However, if you are starting out in the world of anime or a seasoned lover of the stuff I believe there isn't a funnier (theres a weird incest story line at the beginning which is very funny) more worthwhile series than this. I purchased this because it was cheap, no other reason to begin with but after vol. 1 i watched all the episodes back to back. Now i cant do that with any other anime mostly because half the series consists of bogus realisations about 'oh yeah btw the your actually a dragon/robot/monkey/human/god etc.' No the great thing about this series is that its straight forward. eg- dudes family is killed, he wants revenge, finds out its demons, joins Tokko. Although its annoying in places, has the strangest plot and makes hardly any sense the first time you watch it, i've never felt happier sitting through any other series and i feel its the most overlooked series around.

I'm pretty well poised to write this review & to me this is clearly a very sub par anime. Not good. Or acceptable...

1st off I think im pretty well poised to write this review, it's been a while since I watched Tokko but I bought it to fill the void between Samurai Champloo and....err...hmm...not much else out there that competes in that space...

But I'm bored right now re-watching Samurai Champloo so i'll reiterate my prior thoughts on Tokko.

I was disspointed straight away, from the moment in started and that dissapointment didn't go away. The 1st flashback scene creates some hope but essentially it isn't forfilled, the standard set in that scene isn't lived up to and the action is poorly animated.

Further to that, the characters are cookie cutter rubbish, with dire character designs and the 'monsters' are...just bad, awful designs in my opinion. I'll watch it again later maybe but i've shyed away from repeating the experience...I've got and have seen alot of anime and there's none im inclined to watch less than Tokko.

When it comes to reccomending similar anime i'd go for: Samurai Champloo (that is actually a 5star anime which only exemplifies the huge gap in 1-5 star quality) or Blade of the immortal, which isn't super awesome but I would say 3 stars and alot better than this rubbish.

If you want better anime then: Gantz (awesome 5 star stuff), Ghost in the shell (obviously), Paranoia Agent, Elfen Lied, Seven Samurai, Afro Samurai, Hellsing etc etc and even things like Fist of the North Star, old manga and Guyver...oh yeah...Guyver is alot better than this as well. This is only from an action viewpoint, I've never watched an anime as badly made as this before...lol

Overall I've been watching anime for over 17years and I found Tokko almost - no, actually - laughable, I wouldn't and couldn't reccomend it to anyone. Hence it's cheap price I'd imagine.

It's not worth a laugh and to those that found it good, they haven't yet grasped the concept of deep or interesting characters and for some reason find the notion of watching; simple, badly animated and bland images moving around on the screen, interesting, unfathomable.

This is exactly why naysayers find anime and cartoons uninteresting and find it hard to understand why we like them, becuase of tired efforts like this.

(I haven't yet seen Devil May Cry but that got poor reviews and thats undoubtedly far, far superior to this in every respect)

what?!..... just..... WHAT??!!

This is without a doubt the worst anime ever made (and ive seen a lot of bad anime).

If you want a really bloody, stylish and interesting story about demons being chopped up by uber-cool looking guys an gals with swords and pistols then please I beg you PLEASE!!! go and buy the Devil May Cry anime from amazon marketplace or amazon.com. Tokko is awfull- i'm up for a silent protagonist or two, but it seems as though Tokko is made up entierly of them- the only character who has even a whiff of personality about him is Ranmaru (luckily the focus of the show or I would be looking to give zero stars). All of the other characters are just overused stereotypes hell bent on spending all eternity brooding for no damn reason- the entier Tokko team seems completly invincible brushing aside swarms of demons with just a flutter of their damn eyelids! that is until the last 2-3 ish episodes where they seem to be able to be knocked over and killed by a slight breeze!!!

And now for my biggest regret- my DVD player has scratched up one of the discs so I cant sell or return it!!!!!!!!!

I appologise for being so bias in this joke of a review but it all neaded to be said-
please dont be lured buy the cheap price- just save up and buy Gun Sword or somthing.....

(I reviewed Gun Sword too if anyones interested just check out my other reviews, just please buy somthing better than Tokko, it just makes anime look bad!)
thanks for reading!

(hey look i got so angry i forgot how to write in proper paragraphs!) (and how to use punctuation!)
