Usually dispatched within 24 hours Customer Reviews (Average 5.0 from 4) : Samurai & Son Rating:5 I'd only vaguely heard of this set of films (via Shogun Asassin no doubt), until a colleague at work tried to buy an earlier release of the films sometime last year. I borrowed a copy of Shogun Asassin that he had and saw the potential, even though the copy was poor and I don't like dubbed films. This set IS the real deal though. An excellent transfer, full 2.35 to 1 wide screen aspect ratio and interesting short essay for each film on the inside cover of each DVD case. For what was essentially a series of short exploitation films the camera work, acting and stories are remarkably well done. Contemporary (60s and 70s) influences from western cinema abound - particularly the Spagetti westerns and I think Dirty Harry as well. All seven films are 85 - 90 mins long and so long as you are prepared for a lot of ketchup (frequently in Monty Python 'Salad Days' style) you are in a for a cinematic katana treat. This is the one to buy!!! Rating:5 THIS is the Lone Wolf and Cub boxed set to buy. High quality dvd collection, beautiful colours, simply superb! It includes Shogun Assassin as well, as a bonus! Get this one...this boxed set is the definitive one to get...don't cheap out on cheaper box sets, as you may be dissapointed by picture transfer quality. Picture quality is very good on this boxset. The best yet, I've heard. the finest finally remastered Rating:5 Finally someone took the initiative to remaster, what is in my humble opinion, the finest Samurai movies ever! If your into, gore, blood splatter, swords and nudity, all delivered with intelligence and artistic flare; you'll love this. I've waited years for this to be remastered so I can actually see what's going on instead of just black everywhere. Well worth the money too as the box-set is beautiful and comes with the 80's yankee edited version of the first two films, re-titled 'Shogun Assassin'. Which was heavily sampled by Wu-Tang's main producers, the RZA's debut album, 'Liquid Swords'. BABYCART GETS 5 STAR MAKEOVER Rating:5 If you are a fan of the series then you will have already seen all the films and possibly be wondering whether the new issue box set is worth the further expense of buying the set again. I had previously bought the last reissue by Aniemgo of the films on region 1. While that set was'nt bad this new set really hits the mark with a fresh remaster that is really good. Colours are more vibrant, detail is clearer and in abundance. Skintones are truer, blood is redder, cuts are deeper and there is a distinct lack of noise or dirt. As far as the subtitles are concerned these are new and make the films much easier to understand. You can consider the old subtitles in earlier issues of the film to be at best wrong or at worst crap and misleading. In particular in the first film Sword of Vengeance if you did not understand why Lone Wolf went to the Hot Springs village overrun by bandit ronin in the second part of the film, this is now clear in the new subtitles. Although there are no extras apart from trailers I consider the pruchase of this new box set, officially issued by Toho and Eureka to be the best versions of the films yet. To think that only a few years ago we were watching bootleg quality versions of the films, we should now be thankful that Lone wolf has not been forgotten and his loyal fans rewarded with this set. To those who have never seen the films and wondering what all the fuss is about, then you now have the opportunity of experiencing one of the most violent, bloody, Samurai vengeance films ever produced. Its up there with Old Boy, Last House on the Left, Kill Bill and Lady Snowblood. Enjoy |
